So, after a rather interesting year, 2010 has started with a nice surprise. This was not in any way planned, but these babies are awesome. I have narrowed the father down to FURR Mat due to the color and marking combinations of these kids. Everything was textbook for this litter. Well everything except the massive number of babies! We have 17 of these cuties. They will be ready to go home April 3.
Unfortuneately a couple of the babies in this litter appear to have megacolon. Sparkles was born as an outcross and I was unable to do the litter I was planning before she did this surprise. The uneffected kids should remain that way and will make wonderful pets. This doesn't mean that neither of the parents should ever breed again, but they should not breed together again.
These are some of the sweetest and attentive babies.I was able to take the group photos myself, and wrangling 4 week old rats can be a pain. Putting my hand into their cage and I get greeted by 17 adorable noses trying to get at many baby nibbles and kisses in as possible. I want to keep them all!

FURR Liza & FURR Snip
Unfortunately with Surprise litters there can be badly mixed genes. These two little ones are showing signs of MegaColon, which is an incurable disorder and will be put to sleep in the not to distant future. I love these two and they will be missed. For now they are living with their siblings and staying here. The available babies of this litter will NOT be going to breeding homes, but should make wonderful pets and will likely live the expected lifetime. |
